Career Services Center – Marquette University

 Position:  Career Intern, 2 positions available

 Starting Date:  August 21, 2008 as a required training day

Application Deadline:  April 4, 2008

Department:  Career Services Center

Reports to:  Julia Rodrigues, Assistant Director, Career Services Center

Hours:  Academic Year: 15 hours a week. 

Preferred hours:  12:00 pm-4:00 pm weekday availability is preferred.  Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Pay:  $8.00 per hour 

GENERAL FUNCTION

Position Overview:

Serve as front line for students seeking resume and career services assistance during daily walk-in hours.  This includes resume and cover letter review, orientation to office and MU Career Manager, outreach presentations to student groups, and marketing.

 

Skills needed:  strong public speaking skills; interpersonal communication; initiative and creativity; positive attitude; desire to learn, help others, be highly reliable; career interest in counseling, human resources, education, social work, public relations, or marketing.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet individually with students during daily walk-in hours.  Typical topics include resume and cover letter writing and overview of office services.
  • Conduct daily Orientation introducing students to MU Career Manager using a prepared PowerPoint presentation.  Must know all aspects of MU Career Manager to effectively answer students’ questions.
  • Conduct presentations to student groups on various job search topics.  Some evening and weekend hours are required. 
  • Represent Career Services Center at campus events.  Some evening and weekend hours are required.
  • Create and design marketing materials for office events. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

An individual who is creative with strong interpersonal communication and public speaking skills, able to take the initiative to complete tasks and develop new programs when appropriate, possesses a positive attitude and desire to learn, willing to help others and be highly reliable.
