Self-assessment is a very important step in helping you identify
majors and careers that might be a good fit. Identify your interests
(what you enjoy doing), skills (what you are good at), and values
(what is important to you in a job) by logging onto DISCOVER,
a computerized career guidance system.
If you are unsure of your major, typically a freshman or sophomore, visit the Counseling Center to obtain in-person assistance with self-assessment; if you have a major but are still in need of clarifying your career goals, typically a junior or senior, the Career Services Center staff can help you in this process by offering various career assessments for you to complete.
In addition, enroll in the Career Planning and Decision Making
course (ARSC 050) designed to help you learn more about yourself
and what major and career choices might be the right fit.
Once you have developed a profile of what you are looking for
in a career or major and created a list of potential majors and
careers that are a good match, you are ready to embark on the
road of occupational research.
