course management tools
Marquette University’s course management tool is Desire to Learn (D2L). Course management tools allow faculty to provide their students with course materials, communication tools, online assessments, and other academic resources via the Web.
D2L offers a course site framework with sections for news announcements course documents (handouts, assignments, etc.) and online discussions. In addition, the program has a built-in feature to create online tests and surveys. These tests can be automatically graded with the results recorded in an online grade book.
D2L also has several built-in communication tools including a threaded discussion forum and a real-time chat program. All of these features are under the control of the instructor, making it easy to develop and maintain a robust online course site.
The Center for Teaching and Learning hosts a number of training classes on course management tools each year. The frequency of these offerings will increase with the transition to D2L.
D2L training and faculty support personnel are housed in the Center. For more information, contact either Heidi Schweizer at 288-8811 or email heidi.schweizer@marquette.edu, or you can contact Sharon Chaplock at 288-3361 or email sharon.chaplock@marquette.edu.
The Center for Teaching and Learning supports both faculty and student multimedia training and development with individual and small group training and support. Available tools range from basic applications to high-end advances in academic technology. An extensive multimedia laboratory is available on a walk-in basis. The lab is also available for class reservations on a limited basis.
