Video Conferencing

The Center for Teaching and Learning in cooperation with the Instructional Media Center now provides compressed video conferencing services at several locations. Whether communicating locally or around the world, video conferencing enables high quality, professional meetings without the expense or time of travel. These services use the University’s high speed telephone lines and/or the data network.  It is now also possible to effect no cost or low cost connections to other Internet2 member institutions and international partner networks. The Center for Teaching and Learning provides interactive videoconferencing for the Marquette community, enabling point-to-point or multipoint videoconferencing between other institutions in the United States, and – indeed - the world at large. >more

Distance Learning

Marquette University offers a selection of courses to students at a distance through “asynchronous,” web-based interaction. The College of Education, College of Professional Studies, and College of Nursing offer a flexible and convenient path to graduate level education for these courses. Web-based courses are distinguished from traditional face-to-face courses in that the instructor and student are not physically in the same location during at least 80% of the instruction. Students "log on" from home or work and interact with the instructors via carefully designed discussions, chats, and journal entries as well as a variety of required papers and projects. These interactions allow the learner the flexibility and convenience of planning when and where they "come to class". Marquette University uses Desire2Learn (D2L) as the course management system for all web-based courses.

The Center for Teaching and Learning can assist colleges and departments as they plan for distance learning offerings. Consultation on instructional design, production assistance, and project management are also part of our services.

Web Enhanced Learning

Web-enhanced courses are traditional face-to-face courses, both graduate and undergraduate, that have successfully incorporated pedagogically sound uses of web technology into the design and delivery of the course. The most common application for web-enhanced courses is through our course management system Desire2Learn (D2L). These are campus supported technologies that allow the professor to post syllabi, create discussions, archive lecture notes, and provide review strategies such as quizzes, PowerPoints and live, online "office hours".>more
