Video conferencing
In order to participate in or host a video conference, Marquette faculty and staff must schedule a facility with the necessary equipment. There are several such “public” facilities on campus. The Center for Teaching and Learning works with the Instructional Media Center to schedule and support these rooms. The other party or parties participating in the video conference must have access to a “standards-based” videoconferencing system. Such systems are now common in educational and business settings. Our staff might be able to provide contact information for other videoconferencing sites around the world.
A video-conference event requires some significant preparation and planning. Technicians at all conference sites will perform test connections to assure the quality of the connection. At least one week of lead time is usually required.
There are occasionally charges associated with these connections. Extraordinary long distance telephone tolls and overtime costs for technical support may be charged back to the requesting department. In some cases, there are costs incurred from the “far site(s)” to use their facilities. Such charges are also referred to the requesting agency.
The Center for Teaching and learning offers video conferencing in the following locations in the Raynor Library:
Distance Learning Classroom, Raynor 320H
Conference Room, Raynor 320A
