DDS/MS and DDS/PhD Program

The School of Dentistry offers a DDS/MS and DDS/PhD Program. These programs provide a unique opportunity for interested and qualified students to earn an MS or PhD degree while completing their Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Acceptance into the programs is highly competitive and is limited to five students per class.

The degrees can be earned in any appropriate degree-granting department of the university or through a traditional collaborative program with the University of Minnesota. Also available is a unique and innovative DDS/Ph.D. training program in Oral Cellular and Molecular Biology through the University of Rochester Medical Center. This program offers several financial incentives along with an “on time” DDS graduation. Click on this link for a description of the Rochester training program in Oral Science. PDF

Application Requirements and Procedures

The advanced degree programs are administered in close cooperation with the Graduate School. Students may apply for formal entry into the programs anytime before the end of their sophomore year.

If accepted to the programs, the School of Dentistry assists students in formally applying to the Graduate School for acceptance to a program such as:

  • Business Administration
  • Informatics and Computer Science
  • Public Service
  • Education
  • Healthcare Technologies Management
  • Psychology

Students must follow the normal competitive admissions process and fulfill all requirements of the graduate program, department or college from which they seek the degree.
