The following are the basic concepts and objectives of the geriatric dentistry curriculum at Marquette University School of Dentistry:
- Didactic foundational geriatric concepts and material integrated into the existing curriculum rather than creating a separate discipline-based course
- General dentistry approach (interdisciplinary where possible)
- Clinical experiences with older adults during all four years of instruction
- Progressive reinforcement of basic/behavioral sciences, emphasizing principles of preventive dentistry, public health, and ethics
- Early clinical and community-based training experiences exposing students to the role of the dentist as a member of an interdisciplinary team
