Rural Outreach Program
The School of Dentistry is currently affiliated with
three community dental clinics that serve different rural populations
across the state of Wisconsin. These
clinics are located in Appleton, Eau Claire and Stevens Point. Each
of these clinics serves 100% low income patients and/or Medicaid recipients.
Reaching Out
to Make a Difference
As
part of Marquette University’s Mission
of Service, our dental
students travel to these sites an average of forty-five weeks during
the year and provide direct dental services to patients in need. By
affiliating with each of these community partners, Marquette University
School of Dentistry, through our junior and senior dental students
and graduate residents, brings much needed dental care to locations
and patients that receive limited or no dental care. These
rotations also are forming a part of the background of our developing
Service Learning Curriculum within the School of Dentistry.
Unique Clinics, Community Service
Our
community partners are the Tri-County
Community Dental Clinic in
Appleton located on 9 Tri-Park Way; the Chippewa Valley Technical College
in Eau Claire located in their new Health
Education Center at 620 W.
Clairemont Avenue; and the Ministry Dental Center in Stevens Point
located at 3504 East Maria Drive.
Each
of these clinics is unique:
The Tri-County Community
Dental Clinic is operated by a volunteer board of dentists who
also serve as preceptors for our dental students.
The Chippewa Valley Technical
College
has a new health education center with many programs including
a dental
assisting and dental
hygiene program.
Our students work
with students and faculty in these respective programs to deliver
care to the patients as an oral health care team. They have a full-time
general dentist that serves as our preceptor. Ministry Dental
Center in Stevens Point has a full-time dentist who serves as our
preceptor during our students’ rotation in their clinic.
