Purpose and Description
The purpose of this program is to develop advanced education in general dentistry that will provide training beyond the level of predoctoral education in clinical dentistry and applied basic and behavioral sciences. The program expands the scope and depth of the dentists’ knowledge and skills in order to provide care to a wide range of population groups. The program provides education at the postdoctoral level and a smooth transition into a general dentistry career.
The program is 12 months in length and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Successful completion culminates in the award of a certificate in advanced education in general dentistry. This program also offers the option of further study for a master’s (M.S.) or doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree for individuals interested in careers in academic dentistry. The program begins on July 1st of every year.

AEGD Facilities
The AEGD Program is housed in the state-of-the-art Advanced Care Clinic within Marquette University School of Dentistry. Each resident operatory consists of A-dec equipment, newly installed computers w/19 inch flat panel displays, digital radiography and a dedicated X-ray unit. The windowed operatory makes for a pleasant working environment.
AEGD Application Requirements
- A completed application form and $50 fee
- Official transcripts from all current and previous colleges except Marquette
- Three letters of recommendation
- Personal statement and curriculum vitae
- Undergraduate and dental school G.P.A.s and class ranks
- Scores from National Board Dental Exams*
- (International Resident/Students) TOEFL score or other acceptable proof of English proficiency**
*All foreign trained applicants are strongly encouraged to take NBDE Parts I & II. While the NBDE are not an absolute requirement for admission they will make the applicant more competitive in the selection process.
**All foreign trained applicants that are not already licensed to practice in the U.S. are required to take a pre-clinical dental proficiency exam as a requisite for acceptance. The exam is given ONLY to those applicants that are invited for an interview. ALL interviews are by "invitation only".

All applicants must be prepared to appear for a personal interview in Milwaukee during the months of December and January. This occasion has a twofold purpose; faculty members in the program have the opportunity to become better acquainted with the applicant, and applicants have the opportunity to become acquainted with various facets of the program to which they are applying. Phone interviews are not acceptable.
