The Goal of the Graduate Program in Orthodontics
Orthodontic training at Marquette is provided in a two-year program accredited by the American Dental Association. The orthodontic residents are dentists (DDS or DMD) who are being trained as specialists in orthodontics.
Orthodontic faculty are dentists (DDS or DMD) who have completed 2-3 years of specialty training in an accredited orthodontic residency program beyond their 4 years of dental school training.
M.S. and Certificate in Orthodontics
A 2-year Certificate Program in Graduate Orthodontics
The graduate program is 24 months in duration with an emphasis on high quality clinical training. First year residents normally take on an initial caseload of 40-50 patients and then receive an additional transfer of 90-100 patients in their second year.
It is also required that students engage in a research project and defense of a Master's thesis in a publishable form required for graduation. The Program admits 5 new graduate students each year and does fulfill eligibility requirements for The American Board of Orthodontics. Approximately 20 graduate students are invited for interview every year based on the selection criteria. Marquette University School of Dentistry Orthodontics Program participates in the National Matching Service.
There is a strong commitment from the local orthodontic community and our part-time and full-time faculty provides all of the clinic coverage. We have 15 part-time clinical faculties who have broad experience in clinical orthodontics; seven are board certified and five are current members of the Angle Society.
And we have three full-time faculties. Dr. T. Gerard Bradley is the chairman of the Graduate Orthodontic Program. Dr. Jose A. Bosio is the Post-graduate Clinic Director, and Dr. Dawei Liu is the Undergraduate and Research Director.
The Program for incoming graduate students is June 1st, and the graduation for the second years is in May.
