CHRISTOPHER OKUNSERI, BDS, MS

Dr. Christopher Okunseri completed a six year pre-doctoral dental program at the University of Benin, Nigeria in 1989. He went into private practice and part-time teaching before entering the Eastman Dental Institute, an affiliate of the University of London in 1995, where he obtained a Masters of Science in Dental Public Health in 1997, and a Diploma in Dental Public Health awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1996. He also pursued further advanced training in clinical dentistry and became a Fellow Faculty of Dentistry (FFD) Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 1999. He then completed a residency program and was chief resident in dental public health at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. There, he coordinated their school based dental health program and screening of HIV infected children and adults for oral lesions until 2001. Dr. Okunseri joins the MUSoD faculty after two years at the University of Minnesota. He has published several articles on HIV, dental caries, and on the oral health of racial/ethnic minorities. Dr Okunseri likes traveling and has been to several European countries and other African countries. He is married to Elaye and they have a daughter, Tesse.
