The Program in Periodontics is a program within the Department of Surgical Sciences. The Department of Surgical Sciences consists of programs in Periodontics, Oral Surgery, Endodontics and Oral Pathology.
Overview of Patient Care and Services
The patient care activities carried out in the surgical clinic involve both students and faculty, depending on the complexity of the case. The goal of the clinic is to maximize the efficiency and quality of patient care while providing students with a meaningful surgical rotation experience.
Non-surgical periodontal therapy and post-operative care, as well as some surgical assisting are carried out by 2nd year through 4th year students.
Surgical faculty, assisted by the surgical support staff and students, carry out:
- Complex exodontia (removal of teeth)
- Implant surgery
- Sedation
- Hard/soft tissue grafting including periodontal plastic surgery
Location
The Program in Periodontics is housed in the Surgical Services Clinic on the first floor at the School of Dentistry.
Hours of Operation
The Clinic operates year round from 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.– 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
