Carol Sklenicka, author of Raymond Carver: A Writer’s Life (which appeared on numerous “Ten Best Books of 2009” lists, including the NYTimes’ list), will give a public presentation at Marquette University on Monday, March 29, at 4pm in AMU 227.

Raymond Carver, one of the pre-eminent writers of the 20th century (often called the American Chekhov), and one of the major figures responsible for the reinvigoration of the short story form in the seventies and eighties, died in 1988 at the age of 50. Because of issues with his literary estate, no biography of him has appeared until now. Sklenicka interviewed hundreds of people to give us as complete a biography of this seminal writer as we are likely to have.

Please include this event on your syllabi, and those of you who indicated interest in having her appear in your class, please contact me so we can finalize her itinerary. If anyone else is still interested in Carol Sklenicka appearing in your class to talk about Carver, about the work (and the art) of literary biography, about research, etc., please contact me and we'll see what we can arrange.

All best,
