Mission Statement of FAME
The Friends and Alumni/ae of Marquette English is dedicated to promoting a lifelong love of reading and writing as a crucial element in Marquette University’s mission of excellence, leadership, faith and service. FAME is committed to enhancing the high quality of education in literature, language and writing offered by the Marquette Department of English and ensuring its future excellence. In the spirit of Jesuit hospitality, FAME seeks to support a community of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, alumni/ae and friends through public readings, speakers, social occasions, and community service, and to reach out to wider audiences.

As part of the English Department's annual "Shakespeare's Birthday Party" celebration, the English Department, FAME (Friends and Alumni of Marquette English) and the Office of Student Development are proud to present "In Acting Shakespeare," a theatrical production featuring James DeVita of American Players Theatre.

This show, which has been performed locally and will be featured in the American Players Theatre 2012 schedule, is Jim DeVita's adaptation of Sir Ian McKellan's script "Acting Shakespeare." It blends together the story of Shakespeare's life and soliloquies, and DeVita's own story of how the works of Shakespeare led him from working on fishing boats off of Long Island to a career on the stage.

- Fall 2011: Louisa May Alcott Series. Marquette University Libraries in collaboration with Milwaukee Public Library announce a five-event series on "Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women." Angela Sorby and Sarah Wadsworth will present lectures, lead discussions and host film screenings. The dates are Sept. 19, Oct. 6, Oct. 25, Nov. 10, and Nov. 29. - Book Swap: an event to promote the love of reading. Friends and Alumni/ae of Marquette English (FAME) coordinated a Book Swap, 12:30-2:30, Sunday January 31, at the Alumni Memorial Union.

Members of the Marquette neighborhood flooded into the AMU carrying gently used books to swap. Guests were encouraged to take home half as many books as they donated, which left over 1,000 books at the end of the afternoon! These books, and the donations FAME collected, were given to two local agencies which promote literacy and learning:CrossTrainers Academy (part of the Milwaukee Rescue Mission) and Sojourner Family Peace Center. All of the English faculty and graduate and undergraduate students who helped run the event were thrilled with the success of the Book Swap!

View Program - Come to Our January Book Swap
Marquette University’s English Alumnae organization, Friends and Alumni/ae of Marquette English (FAME) will promote the love of reading and gather donated books at a Book Swap on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. The free family-friendly event will be held at the Alumni Memorial Union (AMU) on the second floor lobby near the rotunda.
Participants will bring gently used books of all kinds to the book swap. Organizers will help sort the books into categories. Participants may browse through the donated books, taking home half as many books as they donated, up to a maximum of five books. Families are welcome to come to campus to participate, and current undergrads will help out by organizing the books as well as playing with children who arrive with parents.
“Marquette University has been a home to many of us who have developed a life-long connection to literature, and it is the ideal place to gather together to exchange stories, ideas and books,” said Grace Urbanski (title).
For those who cannot make the event, there will be a donation box in the Raynor lobby in early January

Amy Branam (PhD Marquette, 2005) is pleased to announce that she has accepted a tenure-track position at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland.
Jeremy Braun (MA Marquette) is a co-founder of a local IT firm, Brew City Information Technologies, specializing in technology solutions for small to medium sized businesses. The company's objective is to work with schools and utilize open source software, so that it can give them the very best technology for a fraction of the traditional market cost.
Martin Brick (PhD Marquette, 2009) Tenure track position at Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, OH.
Annnemarie Chapdelaine (BA WINE, 2000) is working towards her M.A in English-Technical Communication at Minnesota State-Mankato. Her area of interest is visual communication, usability and information architecture. She has also completed post-bac schooling in Web Design and Graphic Design. She happily resides in Bay View with her fella.
Matt Darling (PhD Marquette, 2006) has accepted a position as Head Volleyball Coach and Visiting Assistant Professor Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Marcia Eppich-Harris (PhD Marquette, 2006) has accepted a tenure-track position at Marian University in Indianapolis, IN.
Richard Erable (PhD Marquette, 1999) has been named Chair of the English Department at Franklin College in Franklin, IN.

Brian Gogan (MA Marquette, 2007) is an Assistant Professor of English in Rhetoric and Writing Studies at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Jen Heinert (PhD Marquette, 2006) has accepted a tenure-track job at UW-Rock County.
Suzanne Johnson (MA English) has accepted a director position with Buck Consultants, Secaucus, N.J.
Katie Kalish (PhD Marquette, 2006) has accepted a tenure track job at UW—Marshfield.
Alicia Levi (MA English, 2007) has accepted a position at Ashford University (Clinton, IA) as Writing Consultant in their Writing Center.
Melissa E. Lee (MA English) is an adjunct instructor of English at the State University of New York at Canton. She recently published an article "How to Teach English to At-Risk College Students" in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Mary Morse (PhD Marquette, 1999) has been promoted to tenured Associate Professor at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.
Valerie Murrenus Pilmaier (PhD Marquette, 2007) has accepted a tenure track position at the University of Wisconsin: Sheboygan.
Amy Nejezchleb (MA Marquette, 2006) was awarded a spring research assistantship for Southern Illinois University Carbondale in conjunction with the National University of Ireland Galway. She also won a prestigious dissertation research assistantship for the fall and spring from SIUC and its graduate school.

Amanda Putnam, graduated from MU with a BA and MA in English in 1992 and 1995, respectively. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in August 1999 and began a tenure-track position at Roosevelt University (Chicago) that same fall. I'm now a tenured Associate Professor.
Jake Stratman (PhD Marquette, 2007) has accepted a tenure track job at John Brown University, Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Kathleen Volk (MA Marquette) serves as the Assistant Director of the Learning Resource Center at Concordia University Wisconsin, where she directs the Writing Center, coordinates peer tutoring, and teaches composition and writing center theory courses.
