April 2: Peter Turchi Talk On Thursday at 4pm (with a reception to follow), Haggerty Museum of Art, 13th and Clybourn. Peter Turchi will be at Marquette making a presentation on his book Maps of the Imagination: The Writer as Cartographer", which was chosen as one of the Outstanding Academic Titles of 2005 by Choice Magazine (and which won a number of design awards as well).

April 16: Joseph M. Schwartz Memorial Lecture The 2009 Joseph M. Schwartz Memorial Lecture will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 4 p.m. Tom Schaub, chair of English at UW Madison and editor of Contemporary Literature, will deliver: “Secular Scripture and Cormac McCarthy’s novel, The Road.” Follow the link for more information.
April 16: Poetry Reading from Angela Sorby's new book: Bird Skin Coat The reading will begin at 7:00pm at the Barnes and Noble at Mayfair Mall.
April 22: Meeting of Full Professors. On Wednesday morning the full professors will meet to review Associate Professors who have put themselves forward for consideration of promotion to full.
April 23: "Under the Dome" featuring a Poetry Reading from Angela Sorby's new book: Bird Skin Coat The event at the Central Library begins at 6:00pm and features several other poets celebrating National Poetry Month.
April 29: Spring Party. On Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm the English Department Spring Party, sponsored by AEGS will be held in the English Department Conference Room. Awards will be presented at 4:30.

March 5: Mitchem Scholars' Talks On Thursday afternoon at 3:30, Mitchem Fellows from English (Lauren Mason) and History (Sherri Charleston) will present their scholarship in Raynor BC.

March 30: Wisconsin Englishes: Lalumiere Languae Hall, Room 176. Dr. Joe Salmons and Dr. Tom Purnell, co-directors of the Wisconsin Englishes Project at UW-Madison, will discuss Wisconsin words, the influence of German on English in Wisconsin, and other aspects of the past, present, and future of language in the Badger State. Feb. 1-8: Mission Week During Mission Week, Jodi Melamed will serve as the University "host" for Shirin Ebadi, our mission week speaker (Nobel Peace Prize Winner).
Feb 2: Book Discussion During Monday of Mission Week, Kris Ratcliffe will lead a discussion of Persepolis on Monday at 9pm in AMU 163.
Feb. 5: Luncheon & Book Discussion During Thursday of Mission Week, Jodi will be leading a university-wide discussion of Ebadi's memoir Iran Awakening: A Memoir of Revolution and Hope at a luncheon during her visit.
