Marquette University English Department Faculty and Staff
2008-2009 Academic Year
  • 34 full-time faculty
  • 25 part-time faculty
  • 33 graduate students holding teaching assistantships.
  • 4 graduate students holding university fellowships for AY 2008-09
  • 3 graduate students holding research assistantships
  • 1 graduate student holding a Renasence assistantship

The faculty are actively engaged in research and publication, since they are committed to the belief that university teaching introduces the student into the workshop of the professional scholar where the concepts of academic discourse are formulated and applied.  Because the department takes teaching seriously, the faculty regularly conduct courses at all levels, from introductory through doctoral studies.

As additional stimulus to the exchange of views and information vital to the work of the department, there are occasional lectures by visiting scholars and regular colloquia in which faculty members take turns presenting their work-in progress to colleagues and graduate students.
