I began teaching writing in 1982, and my primary goal has been to give students techniques to write clearly and concisely. I also stress that writing must catch the reader’s interest with colorful images and evocative word choice.

My interests span two worlds, with one foot in Medieval literature, and the other pushing the gas pedal of continuous media coverage. In graduate school, my academic work focused on Medieval English. My master’s thesis is titled, “Public and Private Courtesye in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Chaucer.” Ten years later, I entered the public relations field and generated media coverage for local businesses.

In 2004, I started my own PR consulting business which I still run today. My clients come from a range of industries, including health care, historic preservation, computer technology, and renewable energy.  I write marketing materials used for print, radio, television and Internet applications that raise visibility for my clients and their projects.

Other activities include writing grants for area non-profits, writing articles for industry publications, leading brainstorming sessions in communications strategy, and serving on my church council. I also belong to two book clubs, one which discusses contemporary fiction, and the other which explores religious issues influencing contemporary Catholicism.
