- Exploring nursing as a career
Age-appropriate interactive educational presentations about the personal and professional benefits of a nursing career
- Health fairs
Fairs offered at middle schools, high schools and throughout the community to increase awareness, interest and knowledge about the nurse's role in improving health outcomes and to provide experiential activities related to nursing
- Information booths
Information booths at parent-teacher conferences to highlight the rewards of different professional nursing opportunities, approaches to prepare students for nursing school admission and resources to obtain additional information
- Educational presentations for teachers and guidance counselors
Informational sessions integrated with staff meetings at middle schools and high schools to inform teachers and guidance counselors about the benefits of the nursing profession and requirements needed to succeed
- Future nurses clubs
High school and middle school clubs designed to offer academic support and increase awareness, interest and preparation for successful application to and enrollment in a nursing education program
- NurseCamp
A two-day summer overnight experience on Marquette University's campus to provide high school students with a college experience, which prepares them for nursing school by increasing their confidence and comfort with campus and knowledge and interest in nursing
- Weekend scholarship competition for students accepted to Marquette University's College of Nursing
A weekend experience on Marquette's campus in early spring before the tuition deadline; students meet with faculty and advisers, attend presentations by university support services, participate in activities to increase their comfort with the college, and engage in a scholarship competition
- Pre-admission intensive session for new freshmen
An intensive, on-campus, four-day summer session to begin socialization and readiness for college; it focuses on note-taking, study skills, test-taking strategies, giving presentations, professional writing, using university resources, applying for scholarships and accessing faculty assistance
- Academic and personal support
Sessions include alternating structured and non-structured sessions and presentations from faculty, students, university leaders, support services, community health partners and other community leaders; non-structured sessions include pizza nights where students can ask questions, request discussion topics and conduct study groups
- Tutoring
Free tutoring from the Office of Student Educational Services, as well as peer-to-peer tutoring
- Nurse mentor program
The opportunity to be assigned a mentor for a student's BSN education; mentors are Marquette faculty and professional nurses from the community, health care system and advisory board
- NCLEX review
NCLEX review sessions offered to participants in the BSN Student Leadership program
- Leadership development course
A required leadership development course to give students a strong foundation for their transition into professional roles; students learn assertive communication, group and presentation skills, negotiation tactics and political dynamics
- Pre-graduation employment
Assistance with employment opportunities through externs at Aurora Health Care and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin
- Scholarships and stipends
Financial support through scholarships and stipends for nursing students and stipends for high school students from underrepresented backgrounds
