Susan Giaimo


Susan Giaimo is a Visiting Assistant Professor in Political Science. Her research and teaching interests comprise comparative politics of advanced industrial societies, comparative political economy, comparative welfare states, and health care politics and policy. Dr. Giaimo is particularly interested in the questions of how welfare states in advanced industrial societies are responding to the challenges of globalization, demographic change, and post-industrial society. Her publications include , Markets and Medicine: the Politics of Health Care Reform in Britain, Germany, and the United States (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 2002) as well as journal articles on comparative welfare state policies and health care politics.

Dr. Giaimo has taught in the political science department at MIT. She was a post-doctoral fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson Scholars in Health Policy Research Program at the University of California at Berkeley. At Marquette University, she teaches courses in comparative politics, comparative public policy, European politics, and comparative health care politics and policy.
