Students who entered Marquette during the 1999-2000 academic year or before are eligible to fulfill the POSC major under the pre-1999 rules.
The pre-1999 rules require 30 credit hours in Political Science. All four of the introductory courses are required: POSC 20, 40, 60 and 80. They do not need to be taken in sequence; they can be taken in any order. You do not have to complete all four introductory courses before taking upper division courses (numbered 100 or above). Each introductory course is a prerequisite only for upper division courses in that area. For example, once you have taken POSC 20 (“American Politics”), you may take any upper division course in the area of “American Politics,” even though you may not have taken the other introductory courses. (As a rule, though, deferring introductory courses too long is not prudent.)
