Please plan ahead when using Discovery Learning Laboratory Shops. The shop accepts drawings and materials to be made into parts by our staff.

You have to be on the campus network or VPN to access the work order system.

Submit Work Order



Requirements

    1. CAD print
    2. Materials delivered to the shop with copy of work order attached
    3. Work order submitted

The CAD print may be e-mailed, attached to the work order or printed. If printed, it shall be attached to the delivered material.

CAD files should have all associated files included in a complete .zip file.

Solidworks – .sldprt and .slddrw  (all files)
NX – .prt
Inventor - .ipt .iam .idw  (all files)

Export file types also accepted
.stl  (as a solid not a surface)
.igs or .iges (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification)

Each part is a separate work order. This allows us to manage our time.



Work Priority

Work orders are prioritized as follows:

    1. Educational Support
    2. Funded Research
    3. Un-Funded Research
    4. Other

See also the Work Order Priority Policy. We aim to complete most parts in one to three days within this priority framework. The shop does its best but please give us time to succeed.

About the lab

The Marquette Engineering program is design-focused and laboratory intensive. Many classroom and laboratory assignments are multidisciplinary and project-based. The Stan Jaskolski Discovery Learning Laboratory provides a fully equipped, on-site machine shop for design and production of prototypes, test fixtures or complex objects. It is a place where students explore the practical aspects of engineering.
