Center for Dispute Resolution Education
The Marquette University Center for Dispute Resolution Education was created in 1993 as an interdisciplinary academic center that combines the fields of law, business, psychology, sociology, political science, health sciences, education and communication in dealing with today's multifaceted issues in resolving disputes.
The program seeks to train professionals, primarily those in the fields of law, health care, education and business to practice as third party neutrals in the field of dispute resolution, or to be knowledgeable participants in the dispute resolution process.
The Center has three distinct but interrelated
initiatives:
- a 15-credit academic program in dispute resolution
leading to a Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution awarded by
Marquette University Graduate School, and a 33-credit academic program in dispute resolution leading to a Master's degree in Dispute Resolution awarded by Marquette Universtiy Graduate School.
- dispute system design and administration as well as
research conducted in partnership with Marquette University faculty, dispute
resolution professionals, community-based organizations and governmental
units
- continuing education and outreach programs offered in a variety of settings to educate and inform users and practioners as well as the general public about dispute resolution processes

To work for better understanding among people, one
does not have to be a former president sitting in a fancy conference
room table. Peace
can be made in the neighborhoods, the living rooms, the playing fields,
and the classrooms of our country." Jimmy Carter, Talking
