Mission
Alcohol Initiatives and the Office of Student Development support initiatives to provide entertainment options to students during times when high risk drinking often occurs.
Funding support is available for programs or events that take place Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Additionally, funding may be available for events on other days and times, provided that these events are designed to provide a healthier alternative to a high-risk drinking event. Examples could include a pre-Marquette Madness, a St. Patrick's Day party, or events occurring the evening prior to a day off of school or events scheduled during pre-gaming hours.
Certain guidelines for events that qualify for funding do apply. Funding is provided through a CHOICES grant from the NCAA. Funding is limited; therefore organizations are encouraged to apply for funding early in the academic year.
Event Guidelines
Events must be held in an alcohol free environment.
All events must be held on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday nights during the hours of 9:00 pm and 1:00 am for at least a 2-hour time span to qualify. Funding may be available for events on other days and times, provided that these events are designed to provide a healthier alternative to a high-risk drinking event.
Events must be alcohol and drug free regardless of age or student status of the attendees.
All function attendees must abide by campus, local, state, and federal laws while attending the sponsored event.
Prizes may be given at the event, but prizes should not promote alcohol use or abuse.
Award allocation funds may be used for specified expenditures only.
Funds are limited so each organization or persons may only be awarded funds once a semester depending on availability of funds.
All events must have prior approval from the Coordinator for Alcohol Programs in order to receive funds.
Funding Guidelines
If the event is for a floor /group (50 people or less) the award will be up to $100.00
If the event is for the entire hall/community/multi-group event (51-100 people) the award will be up to $200.00
If it is a campus wide event the award will be up to $300.00
These are the typical funding limits, though exceptions may apply.
All events must have prior approval from the Coordinator for Alcohol Programs in order to receive funds.
