The following programs are utilized at Marquette as a part of our comprehensive approach to reducing the illegal and high-risk use of alcohol and the resulting consequences:

AlcoholEdu for College

AlcoholEdu for College is an online alcohol education tool administered by Everfi. AlcoholEdu for College is designed as a population-level prevention program to be given to an entire population of students, such as an entering first-year class. This method creates a learning experience that:

In addition to providing a baseline of alcohol education for all incoming students, AlcoholEdu collects survey data from students as they complete the course. The AlcoholEdu for College course has three major components: a knowledge-based pre and post-test, surveys of attitudes and behaviors at three points in time, and several hours of course content.  The course has been administered to all incoming first year students at Marquette University since the 2006-2007 academic year. Over the past few years, over 6,000 new students have taken the online class to prepare them for the presence of alcohol in college.

Developed by researchers at the University of Washington, BASICS, which stands for Brief Alcohol
Screening and Intervention for College Students, has as the primary goal to move a student in the direction of reducing risky behaviors and the harmful effects from drinking instead of overtly centering on abstaining or drinking reduction.

BASICS is conducted over the course of two hour long interviews between the student and a trained facilitator. Marquette takes student safety and health very seriously, striving to educate students to make healthy lifestyle choices.
