To: Marquette University Community

From: L. Christopher Miller, Vice President for Student Affairs

I am writing to share with you news of an accident involving two of our students at 17th Street and Wisconsin Avenue shortly after 9 a.m. The students were on the sidewalk when they were struck by a vehicle. Both students were immediately transported to Froedtert Hospital, where they are being treated for serious injuries. Both students’ families, as well as their instructors and residence hall directors, have been contacted.

The prayers of our entire campus community go out to the students, their families and their friends. The Chapel of the Holy Family in the AMU will be open at 1 p.m. for the community to gather in prayer and support. We have an incredibly close-knit community and I am confident that we will pull together to support our students.

The Department of Public Safety stopped the vehicle and the driver was taken into custody by the Milwaukee Police Department.

We recognize that at that time of day, many of you may have witnessed the accident. We encourage our campus community to make use of Marquette’s counseling and spiritual services, including Campus Ministry, the Counseling Center, and the resources available through the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs.

As I have said before, the safety and wellbeing of our students is our most important priority. We will continue to keep the campus community informed as more information is made available.

Vice President for Student Affairs
