College of Education Celebrates 2012 Alumni Award Winners

Released: 4/17/12

The following alumni will be honored at the College of Education Awards Conferral and Reception on Thursday, April 26, 2012 in the Henke Lounge at the Alumni Memorial Union. The event is part of the university-wide Alumni National Awards Weekend, a celebration honoring alumni from every college who represent the heart, soul, and spirit of Marquette.

Dr. Bette A. Lang

Distinguished Alumna of the Year Award
DR. BETTE A. LANG, GRAD '93

Janesville, Wis.

With so many “of the year” awards to her name — educator of the year, administrator of the year, teacher of the year, volunteer of the year — it was really only a matter of time before someone recognized Bette’s entire career. Which, incidentally, began in 1972 at Rhinelander High School and continues today at George Williams College/Aurora University and Edgewood College.

Dr. Melinda Lawlor Skrade

Educational Policy and Leadership Achievement Award
DR. MELINDA LAWLOR SKRADE, ARTS '81, GRAD '87, '04
Milwaukee

Key to Melinda’s success is what led to her true vocation: a commitment to Catholic education. She has a rich background in leadership and has served Pius XI High School for more than 25 years, including now as chief administrator.

Rebecca Simon

Young Alumnus of the Year Award
REBECCA SIMON, GRAD '02
Milwaukee

Most professionals select one or two areas in which to specialize. Rebecca’s list runs just shy of 10. A nationally certified counselor, she is vice president of program services for Lutheran Social Services and has a passion for quality care for all people.

Friend of the College of Education Award - Exchange Club

Friend of the College of Education Award
EXCHANGE CLUBS OF GREATER MILWAUKEE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION, INC.
Wauwatosa, Wis.

By virtue alone, volunteers make good companions because they do what they do out of sheer fidelity. A prime example: the three local affiliates of the National Exchange Club, which have supported a graduate research assistantship in Marquette’s Behavior Clinic, which was founded by the College of Education and Penfield Children’s Center.
