Dr. Ellen Eckman, Associate Professor of Education, assumed the role of Educational Policy and Leadership (EDPL) department chair on July 1, 2010. Dr. Eckman succeeds Dr. Robert Lowe, who served in the role for the past three years. Ellen’s overarching responsibilities include planning, directing, and coordinating the academic, administrative, and student-related activities of the EDPL Department.
Dr. Eckman’s research focuses on leadership, especially the examination of co-leadership models and women in educational administration. Her most recent research project explores how students made meaning of their study and service in South Africa, where she served as the Academic Director of the Marquette University South Africa Service Learning program. Prior to coming to Marquette, Dr. Eckman was an administrator and teacher in public schools in the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
Commenting on her appointment, Dean Bill Henk said, “As chair, Dr. Eckman will bring a heartfelt dedication to the department and the College. Her exemplary work ethic and administrative talents will assure that EDPL remains solidly positioned for the challenges and opportunities of the future.”
The College welcomes Dr. Eckman to this very important position.
