Erika began her career as a teacher for Milwaukee Public Schools. She began teaching at Marquette University in the fall of 1967, and was granted tenure in fall of 1971. After earning her Ph.D. from UW-Madison in 1974, she was promoted to Associate Professor. During her tenure at Marquette, she not only taught a variety of courses, but also served as certification officer and director of teacher education. She expressed great enjoyment for working with advanced degree students, and assisted a variety of doctoral candidates in the completion of their degrees. During her career, Dr. Bogenschild also served as a consultant regarding education philosophy and methods.

A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, April 15, at Wisconsin Memorial Park-Chapel of the Chimes, 13235 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cancer Clinic at Froedtert Hospital would be appreciated.
