Keli Wickersheim Receives WAFLT Future Language Teacher Award

Released: 5/22/08

The School of Education congratulates Keli Wickersheim, a 2008 graduate of Marquette's secondary teacher education program, who has received a 2008 Future Language Teacher Award from the Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers. She was nominated for the award by Dr. Todd Hernandez, of Marquette University, and Ann Riordan, her cooperating teacher at Nicolet High School.

Keli, who will be recognized at the Awards Banquet at the WAFLT conference this fall, gives credit to her School of Education experience for making this award possible. "I feel very honored to have been selected for such an inspiring award! And I know that it had everything to do with my excellent preparation at Marquette."

Keli will finish her student teaching at Nicolet High School this June and will begin her fall 2008 semester as a Spanish teacher for Hortonville High School near Appleton, WI.

The WAFLT Future Language Teacher Award may be conferred annually on students in teacher-training programs who have shown exceptional promise and potential to become outstanding world language educators. Students currently enrolled in, or having completed, student teaching (or equivalent) of a teacher training program. Each teacher training program may nominate one student from each language.
