Congratulations to Dr. Doris Walker-Dalhouse on her acknowledgement of service with the International Literacy Association (ILA).

ILA is a global advocacy and membership organization of more than 300,000 literacy educators, researchers, and experts across 75 countries. ILA has set the standard for how literacy is defined, taught, and evaluated. Its mission is to "empower educators, inspire students, and encourage leaders with the resources they need to make literacy accessible for all."

Dr. Doris Walker-Dalhousewas appointed to​the 2017 ILA Standards for the Preparation of SpecializedLiteracy Professionals Committeecharged with revisingthe 2010 professionalstandards forclassroom teachers, readingspecialists, andliteracy coaches. The standards are used by school districts and theCouncil for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) inevaluatingthe literacy components of teacher education programs.CAEP-accredited programs with national ILA recognition arethe gold standard in literacy educator preparation programs. Dr. Walker-Dalhouseserves​as the lead writer for Standard 4: Diversity and Equity.

Dr. Walker-Dalhouse recently served as a member and subcommittee chair of the ILA Task Force: Literacy Education Reform. She was the lead writer in the development of the Student Support framework of the white paper generated which is entitled Frameworks for Literacy Reform. Other frameworks for developing and evaluating literacy education refore focused on literacy teaching and teachers, schools and schooling, and families and communities.

In the past, Dr. Walker-Dalhouse served ILA as a member of the Board of Directors (2000-2003), Gender Issues and Equity Committee, Specialized Professionals in Reading Special Interest Group, Organization of Teacher Educators in Reading Special Interest Group, Leadership, Education and Development for Educators in Reading (LEADER) Special Interest Group.

Dr. Walker-Dalhouse has also served as an adviser to the ILA Alpha Upsilon Alpha Student Honor Society Chapter at Minnesota State University Moorhead and as a conference presenter at local, state, regional, and international ILA conferences.
