Full versus Part-Time Enrollment

We have both full-time and part-time students in our department. In fact, we welcome both types of students. Several of our part-time students are professionals who hold part- or full-time positions in the community, or are parents who may or may not be employed outside the home. We welcome the diversity that all of these types of students bring to the classroom and to practicum meetings, and we believe that it enhances the learning that takes place for all of the students.

Recently over 50% of our students have pursued their coursework on a full-time basis.

  • For Master's students, the choice to attend full-or part-time is entirely up to each student.
  • Doctoral students can also attend full- or part-time, but they must take classes on a full-time basis for at least one year in order to complete the Graduate School's residency requirement.
  • Predoctoral internships also are almost always completed on a full-time basis (i.e., an internship is required near the end of the Ph.D. Program where students generally work full-time for one year in a clinic, hospital, or other behavioral health care agency). Research and teaching assistants must also be enrolled full-time during the time they are on assistantship.
