This fall, SOE Associate Dean Kathleen Cepelka was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for Pius XI High School. This appointment follows her recent service on the Pius Education committee, and stands in alignment with her desire to extend the reach of the School of Education’s work into the greater Milwaukee community.

Before joining the staff in Marquette University’s School of Education, Dr. Cepelka served as principal of Catholic Memorial High School. For many years, she has served on the Board of Directors for Notre Dame Middle School, and has given generously of her time through service on various Archdiocesan committees, including the Schools’ Theology and Faith Formation Committee.  Dr. Cepelka is also an active member of the Teacher and Principal Quality Workgroup for the Milwaukee Partnership Academy (MPA), whose purpose is to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Milwaukee Public Schools.

Dr. Cepelka’s describes this work as “just the beginning” and sees her involvement as a chance to use her 40 years of experience in education to give back to the community. “I really see this as important work,” Cepelka says, “It stems from my desire to effect real change through the gift of my experiences.”
