School of Education Students Receive Student Leadership Awards

For the past 38 years, the Division of Student Affairs has presented leadership awards to recognize student contributions to the mission and activities of the various student affairs areas. Students are nominated by staff from the division and throughout the university and are selected by a committee representing each of the student affairs departments, Intercollegiate Athletics, and University Ministry. Awards are presented at a program held each year in April.
On April 22, 2007, the following School of Education students were honored at the Division of Student Affairs awards ceremony.
Heidi Heyrman, Senior, Appleton, WI, Division of Student Affairs Student Leadership Award for Outstanding Contributions to Peer Education
Heidi Heyrman has been a member of the Orientation Staff for the past three years and this year she served as one of the Orientation Student Coordinators. Her work with the Siblings Program and creativity in the design and implementation of the Orientation Late Night Program were crucial to the success of the Orientation. This year Heidi was also an active member of the Women’s Leadership Conference Planning Team.
Katie Muller, Junior, Glenview, IL, Division of Student Affairs Student Leadership Award for Outstanding Contributions to Spiritual Development and Justice Education
Katie Muller is a resident assistant who actively promoted spiritual growth and reflection within the campus community through her leadership. Katie was a participant in two Ministry retreats this year and served as a retreat leader for the Freshman Two Day Retreat. She is also a Eucharistic minister and minister of hospitality.
Steve Ryan, Junior, Hinsdale, IL, Division of Student Affairs Student Leadership Award for Outstanding Contribution to Social and Arts Programming.
Steve Ryan served as the MUSG Program Vice President this year. He managed the recruitment and training of the program board and supervised commissioners as they planned events in collaboration with student organizations and university departments. He also served on a variety of university committees, including the 125th Anniversary Committee, Manresa Student Advisory Board, Board of Undergraduate Studies, and Late Night Marquette Steering Committee.
Kathleen Scannell, Sophomore, Valparaiso, IN, Division of Student Affairs Student Leadership Award for Outstanding Contributions to Community Service
In her position as a resident assistant, Katie Scannell strives to find service opportunities to offer to her hall community. She motivates others to become involved in service with her personal enthusiasm and dedication. Kathleen is also actively involved with Relay for Life. She acted as the chair of the recruitment committee this year and helped plan the Colleges Against Cancer Gala, a major fundraiser for the program.
