Lauren Leslie Honored with AMUW Award

On April 29th, Dr. Lauren Leslie was honored as the recipient of the AMUW Nora Finnigan Werra Faculty Achievement Award. This faculty achievement award is given annually by the Association of Marquette University Women (AMUW) in recognition of a woman faculty member who has excelled in her research, teaching, and service to Marquette and the community, and who has mentored students as well as other faculty.

The School of Education would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Leslie and express thanks for the ongoing contributions that she has made to Marquette University and the School.

Dr. Lauren Leslie has been on the faculty at Marquette University for 32 years and is currently serving as Chair of the Department of Educational Policy and Leadership. She is Director of the Hartman Literacy and Learning Center, which houses the Family Literacy Program, a collaborative literacy intervention program that reaches out to children in the Milwaukee area.  Dr. Leslie teaches both undergraduate and graduate assessment and instruction courses that focus on instruction for children who have difficulties leaning to read.

In addition, Dr. Leslie has achieved much success through her research and publications. She recently authored the Qualitative Reading Inventory-4  (2006) a nationally recognized assessment tool used to evaluate students’ reading abilities from first grade through early high school, as well as a book co-authored with JoAnne Caldwell entitled, Interventions Strategies to Follow Informal Reading Inventory Assessment: So, what do I do now? (2004).

Dr. Leslie is also a wonderful and supportive wife and mother.  She has been married for almost 33 years and has one son who will be enrolled in The Writer’s Workshop at the University of Iowa in the fall.
