The Case for Catholic Education, K-16
Dr. Karen Ristau, President of the National Catholic Education Association
Catholic education proclaims its aim as educating the whole person — spiritually, morally, intellectually and physically. Marquette University’s mission amplifies that aim, emphasizing the education of the heart as well as the mind, and seeking truth under the mutually illuminating powers of human intelligence and faith. Join Dr. Karen Ristau as she examines the challenges of this enterprise which, while re-shaped for our contemporary world, still promises the grace of great things.

The Mission Week Faculty Commons gives faculty a time and place to share teaching, scholarship and research related to the many dimensions of Marquette’s mission. All faculty and graduate students are invited to stop in at the Commons whenever and for as long as they are able. Each day features a moderated panel discussion on a different topic that connects to Ignatian spirituality and this year’s Mission Week theme, “Challenged to Choose: the Courage to Act.” We’ll reflect on issues such as ethics and responsibility in the corporate world, women in the workplace and workers’ rights in the U.S. and abroad. Lunch is provided. Sponsored by the Manresa Project, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and the Center for Teaching and Learning.
