The School of Education hosted an open house on December 14 to celebrate the recent major expansion and renovation of its facilities. The project, which included the creation of 10 new furnished offices and a large multipurpose space in the Schroeder Health and Education Complex, coincides with the designation of our new College of Education status.
Marquette University Provost, Madeline Wake, and School of Education Dean Bill Henk spoke during a brief afternoon program. Provost Wake played a key role in the creation of the new facilities as well as in the obtaining of College status. She spoke about the deservedness of the School for its new facilities and applauded the faithfulness of our faculty and students to our social justice mission. Other Marquette professionals who contributed significantly to the facilities project were Arthur Scheuber, Tom Ganey, Dr. Toby Peters, Dale Kaser, and Kathy Kugi-Tom.
At the ceremony, Dr. Henk expressed the gratitude of the School of Education community for the new space and praised its functional and aesthetic value. He commented, “These new facilities represent wonderful new individual work spaces for our faculty and provide an excellent large group meeting area. The new look enriches the quality, beauty, and utility of our work environment immeasurably, and befits our new status as a College.”
Dr. Henk also honored Provost Wake, who will be retiring as Provost beginning January 1, 2008, and thanked her for her friendship to the School. Besides supporting College status and new facilities, Dr. Wake authorized the creation of new Education faculty positions, provided assistance with national accreditation, and supplied resources for research and mentoring.
