Education Students Get Involved in the Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation's TEAM Outreach Program
Released: 10/11/05
Marquette Education students are breaking new ground this year by tutoring in the Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation's (MTEF) TEAM outreach program (Tennis, Education And Mentoring). TEAM is a neighborhood-based, free program that combines education, leadership, and teamwork with the sport of tennis. The TEAM program serves approximately 3,000 at-risk children annually in grades three through seven at 30 schools and youth-serving organizations. Children participate one to three days per week, depending on the site.
TEAM strives to provide children with a healthy outlet, physically, mentally and emotionally. This outlet will keep children engaged in tennis and other productive activities that instill pride and discipline. Life skills are incorporated into each tennis lesson, and these help participants make choices that enhance their lives.
The Marquette School of Education students who are serving as tutors this year include:
Andy Fleming, Jenny Keller, Jenna Williams, Samantha Twomey, Kelly Riegling, Trisha Springstroh, Shantia Robinson, Doug Hansen, Jenny Latendresse, Christy Hodapp, Renee Jacobs, Christina Jaspers, Liz Sanger, Katrina Carini, Abbey Vogt, Molly Polvin, Leah Lakofka, and Collen Willve.
