Opus College of Engineering 2017 Graduation Information

Saturday, May 20, 2017 - 1:30 p.m.

The college ceremony will be held at The Al McGuire Center, 770 S. 12th St. Ushers will be present and available to assist families and guests. No tickets are required for the Opus College of Engineering or the University commencement ceremonies.

  • Graduates arrive at 12:45 p.m. and go directly to the lower level gym to pick up their reader card and assemble for the procession. Graduates may not bring anything into the ceremony. All purses, backpacks or other items must be left with family or friends.
  • The Al McGuire Center seating will be available to families beginning at 1:00 p.m. Seats are available on a first come-first served basis.
  • Graduates process into the arena at 1:30 p.m. The program will include college awards and individual recognition of the graduates. It is expected to conclude at 3:30 p.m.
  • PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN DIPLOMA DISTRIBUTION (effective as of April, 21, 2017): May 2017 graduates will receive their diploma after the all-university commencement ceremony at the Bradley Center. You can pick up yout diploma on the second floor of the Bradley Center - MVP Club Area (section 223/224), this area is highlighted in orange on the Bradley Center map. You must pick up your diploma, diplomas will not be given to family members or friends, only to the student. If you completed your requirements in December 2016 or will complete them in August or December 2017 you will need to contact the Office of the Registrar regarding diploma pickup.

Attendance

Attendance is required for all graduates for May commencement ceremonies. If you are unable to attend either ceremony (University or college) email your request to be excused to Dr. Mark Federle by Monday, May 8. 2017.

Cap and Gown Pick-up

Academic apparel is required at the University and Opus College of Engineering commencement ceremonies. No preordering is necessary. There is no charge to the graduate for academic apparel. Apparel pickup will take place on the following days:

Tuesday, May 16, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
OR
Wednesday, May 17, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Alumni Memorial Union, rooms 157/163

If the candidate cannot pick up his/her own apparel, a friend or relative may come in his/her place. Information needed to pick up the cap and gown is the candidate's name, degree, height and college.

Undergraduates may keep their apparel. Master's candidates return apparel after the university ceremony, to the designated locations int the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Special needs seating

Seats for guests needing special accommodations are located on the main floor. The Al McGuire Center suggests droppping your party off in front of the building on 12th Street. Enter the main entrance. Ushers will be present and available to assist families and guests.

Parking

There is a parking structure on Wells St. as well as surface parking west of the facility.

Photographer

GradImages, the official photographer for the Opus College of Engineering ceremony, will take individual pictures of each graduate as they receive their diploma cover on stage, A second photo will be taken just before each graduate returns to their seat on the arena floor.
