Environmental Adventures Pre-College Experience (EAPE)
July 23 - 27, 2007, 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
For students entering grades 9 - 12.
This summer, attend an exciting and challenging program designed for students interested in exploring the world of environmental science and engineering. Canoe the Milwaukee River and learn about water quality and aquatic biology; find out how our drinking water is treated and tour a treatment facility; become familiar with opportunities in university science and engineering education; and find out about environmental careers.
The Environmental Adventures Camp will provide students with the following:
- An introductory university experience with the themes of clean water, sustainability, and careers related to the environment.
- The opportunity to connect and learn about each other, while discussing local and global environmental issues.
- Exposure to a university setting and the possibilities that higher education has to offer.
- An introduction to careers and connections with organizations and centers in and around Milwaukee, including the Marquette University Water Quality Center, River Revitalization Foundation, Global Partners: Running Waters, and the Urban Ecology Center.

Pre College Camp for Teens
WHEN?
EAPE will be held for one (1) week in the summer of 2007, from Monday, July 23 to Friday, July 27, 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM.
WHERE?
EAPE will be held on the Marquette University campus, with field trips to the Urban Ecology Center, Oak Creek Water Treatment Plant, South Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant, and other locations. Classes and labs will be held at the Marquette University College of Engineering , Haggerty Engineering Hall, 1515 W. Wisconsin Ave.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Applicants to the EAPE program must be:

Entering the 9th through 12th grade in the Fall of 2007.
- Interested in learning more about the environment, science, and engineering.
- Able to attend camp daily during the 1 week of scheduled activities.
WHAT YOU WILL DO IN EAPE?
The curriculum will consist of two modules . The first module, titled “Local and Global Water Resources”, will focus on the rivers of Milwaukee as well as the importance of water globally, including the connection between water resources at home and in developing countries. Module two, titled “Land Management and Sustainability”, will focus on the impact of land use in urban areas and on water resources with an emphasis on conservation and protection of these natural resources.
Instruction will be provided by engineering professors from Marquette University, partnership volunteers, and other environmental science experts. Field trips will be hosted by the partner organizations, including the Urban Ecology Center.
COST
$125 for the camp including lunch, field trips and classroom activities. Limited scholarships are available for qualifying students who apply.
