What do Civil Engineers do?
Civil engineers design and build the infrastructure of civilization -- highway systems, bridges, skyscrapers, airports, water treatment and distribution systems, and even cities themselves. Civil engineers designed the "Chunnel" linking England and France, as well as the world's tallest building. They are also involved in the design of high-speed train systems and systems used to restore areas affected by oil or chemical spills. Clearly, civil engineering is a very broad field that includes several exciting areas of specialization. These include structural engineering, environmental engineering, transportation engineering and planning, construction engineering and public works management, and geotechnical engineering. Marquette's programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels permit the student to focus on any of these specialties. Learn more by clicking on the area of your choice.
