Five-Year BS/MS Program

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a program where eligible students may obtain both a Bachelor of Science degree in either Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering together with a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in just five years. Students with a QPA of 3.25 or better in their Mathematics, Science and Engineering courses are eligible to apply to this program in their junior year.  Students currently enrolled in the undergraduate Electrical and Computer Engineering programs at Marquette University may apply for admission to the five-year program during their junior year. Students must submit an application to the Graduate School, indicate their interest in the five-year program, and meet all other admission criteria as stated in the Master's Degree Admission Requirements.

Students in the program may take masters level courses in their junior or senior undergraduate year depending upon their program. Up to nine graduate credits count toward both degrees. Remaining courses and credits toward the M.S. degree are completed during the fifth year. For students following Plan A (Thesis Option), work on the thesis research should begin during the summer between the junior and senior undergraduate years. Students following Plan B (Course Option) can also complete the program in five years. Summer session course work may be required for students pursuing the Plan B (Course Option).

Your starting point for information about any of the 5-year, 2-degree programs is your faculty advisor who can provide you with the details of each program, including course plans.  Or, you can talk with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Fabien Josse, if you’re interested in these programs.  You can also contact the Marquette University Graduate School for more information.

In addition to the BS/MSEE programs described above, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has joined with the Department of Physics to offer a 5 year program which leads to the Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  For more details about this program, contact the Dr. Ruth Howes, Chair of the Department of Physics.
