General Requirements

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a number of intermediate (100 level) and advanced (200 level) graduate courses that can be taken for credit toward the M.S. and Ph.D. degree. Graduate students who are enrolled in 100 level courses are often assigned additional tasks in order to fortify and enhance their academic capability. Credit toward a graduate degree is not given for any course in which a grade of less than C has been obtained. Students must retain a grade point average of at least 3.0 throughout their duration of study in their graduate program.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organizes a number of seminars each semester, and all graduate students are required to attend these seminars. Failure to regularly attend seminars is a violation of Departmental requirements, and will constitute a deficiency in the student's record when applying for graduation. Also, prior to graduating, each Ph.D. candidate must give a technical presentation. This presentation can be offered as part of the Department seminar course (MEEN 396) or may be substituted by any technical presentation given at off-campus professional conferences/symposia.
