Engineering Ethics and Values Minor

The College of Engineering offers a minor in Engineering Ethics and Values (ENEV).

The goal of this program is to involve engineering students in an elective program which will help you to: (a) understand the impact of Christian, Catholic and Jesuit values on engineering ethics, (b) recognize current engineering ethical issues and (c) strengthen your moral resolve to act courageously on these issues once you enter the engineering profession.

Requirements include: PHIL50, PHIL104, and THEO1.  Students are also required to participate in four 1-credit ENEV colloquia (ENEV1, 2, 3, 4).   Final course requirements include: 3 credit hours from the following list of courses: BIEN151, CEEN190, CEEN193, and 6 additional credit hours from PHIL105, PHIL108, PHIL 131, PHIL 132, PHIL191, SOCI132, SOCI165, SOJW80, THEO115, THEO170, THEO171, THEO175, MANA181, BIEN151, CEEN190, CEEN193.

The minor requires 22 credits, but with planning can be completed with minimum overload.  For example, if a student elects to take:

  • PHIL50 – UCCS HNE
  • PHIL104 – UCCS HNE
  • THEO1 - UCCS T
  • CEEN190 – UCCS DC
  • SOJW80 – UCCS ISB
  • THEO115 – UCCS T

the overload (e.g. minor degree requirements above-and-beyond the engineering major requirements) is a mere 4 credits; the four 1-credit ENEV colloquia (ENEV1, 2,3,4) that are required to complete this minor.
