My First Semester Schedule
The typical fall semester schedule for an engineering freshman varies slightly depending on major. However, it is possible to readily change majors within engineering. All engineering students typically enroll in mathematics, science, English, and freshman engineering. With the exception of biomedical engineering students who enroll in two science classes, engineering students also begin their university Core studies.
Please note; all Marquette course numbers will be a 4-digit number effective fall 2009. The courses shown below are designated by the 4-digit course number.
This is the typical freshman fall schedule:
| Mathematics: MATH 1450 - Calculus 1 (4 credits) |
|
| |
Science: CHEM 1001 - General Chemistry 1 (4 credits) or
PHYS 1003: General Physics with Calculus (4 credits) |
- All engineering students will eventually enroll in both of these courses.
- First semester freshmen typically enroll in CHEM 1001, with the exception of biomedical engineering students who enroll in PHYS 1003 as freshman.
- Biomedical engineering students should also register for BIOL1001: General Biology 1 (3 credits).
|
| |
| English: ENGL 1001 - Rhetoric and Composition 1 (3 credits) |
- All engineering students enroll in ENGL 1001, unless you have AP or IB test credit or transfer credit.
- If you have taken a college level English course for credit, contact Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Mr. Chris Perez, at
chris.perez@marquette.edu for course transferability.
|
| |
| Freshman Engineering |
- Civil, Construction Engineering and Management, Environmental, Electrical, Computer, Mechanical and Undecided engineering students should enroll in GEEN 1200: Engineering Discovery (3 credits).
- Biomedical engineering students should enroll in BIEN 1100: Introduction to Biomedical Engineering Methods 1 (2 credits).
- Transfer Students: Please contact the Assistant Dean ffor Academic Affairs, Mr. Chris Perez at chris.perez@marquette.edu to determine the freshmen engineering course you should take.

| University Core of Common Studies (UCCS): |
|
What is the University Core of Common Studies? |
- Marquette University has a strong interest in the overall development of their students. To ensure that every student experiences a diverse learning curriculum, Marquette requires that each student takes several classes within a wide range of subjects.
- For engineering students these Core electives include the following knowledge areas: Individual & Social Behavior (ISB), Diverse Cultures (DC), Histories of Cultures & Societies (HCS), and Literature & Performing Arts (LPA).
- All engineering students will also need to enroll in THEO 1001: Introduction to Theology (3 credits) at some point during their studies.
- NOTE: Construction Engineering and Management students are required to take ECON 1001: Intro to Economics, a course that meets the Core ISB requirement.
|
|
With the exception of Biomedical engineering students who are
taking BIOL 1001, all engineering freshman should enroll in one Core elective course (ISB, DC, HCS, LPA, or THEO 1001). |
- Click here to find out what classes count for your university core requirements.
- Note that engineering students interested in Study Abroad may want to defer many of their Core classes for international study. These students should take THEO 1001.
