Visiting Assistant Professor

Melvin is a PhD graduate in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Originally from Eastern Oregon, he eventually made his way to Washington, D.C. and now Milwaukee. He speaks fluent Arabic and has lived in Morocco, Iraq, and Syria. His research interests are interdisciplinary and include Arabic-Islamic rhetoric, rhetorical constitutions, visual and aural rhetoric, and the symbolic/aesthetic origins of conflict, culture, and national identity. His pedagogical interests include designing writing, rhetoric, and literature courses using film and music to teach rhetorical attitudes toward knowledge, critical thinking, creative thinking, and the paradoxes of living in an interconnected world.
