- April 18. Face-to-face meeting for English 2720, Summer Session 2. There will be a preparatory face-to-face meeting on Monday, April 18, 4:30–6:00 p.m., in Raynor 320A. Attendance is recommended, not required. Registered students will receive letters of invitation.
- Graduate student Kelsey Squire has received a Woodress Visiting Fellowship to conduct research on Willa Cather using materials at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln libraries.
- Angela Sorby and Sarah Wadsworth received a collaborative NEH grant from the American Library Association to collaborate with Raynor Memorial Libraries and Milwaukee Public Library on an outreach project titled Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women. The project, which is based on a biography written by Harriet Reisen and a documentary film co-produced by Nancy Porter Productions, Inc. and Thirteen/WNET New York’s American Masters, will support a series of public events to be scheduled in Fall 2011.

- Friends and Alumni/ae of Marquette English (FAME) is coordinating a Book Swap, 12:30-2:30, Sunday January 31, at the Alumni Memorial Union. Bring gently used books of all kinds and take home half as many books as you provide, up to a maximum of five books.

- Thurs. Nov. 11. If These Walls Could Talk: North American Indian Boarding Schools or a Ruse for Cultural Extermination. 4-6 p.m. Alumni Memorial Union, 2nd Floor, Lunda Room.
This panel presentation will provide a rare glimpse into the dark corridors of residential schools that generations of Indian children in both Canada and the United States were forced to walk. Panelists include: Theodore Fontaine who at age 7 was taken from his home and family on Sagkeeng First Nation to a Catholic Mission School, and Kelly Jackson, Lac du Flambeau tribal member, who will discuss why the walls of these institutions need to talk and will illuminate the fight to save her reservation’s boarding school.
Reception following. Sponsorship graciously provided by the Office of Public Affairs, the Les Aspin Center for Government Alumni Council, Student Affairs, the College of English, and the Provost’s Office of Diversity.

Peter Turchi will be at Marquette making a presentation on his book Maps of the Imagination: The Writer as Cartographer", which was chosen as one of the Outstanding Academic Titles of 2005 by Choice Magazine (and which won a number of design awards as well).

- Feb. 5: Luncheon & Book Discussion During Thursday of Mission Week, Jodi will be leading a university-wide discussion of Ebadi's memoir Iran Awakening: A Memoir of Revolution and Hope at a luncheon during her visit.
- Feb. 9: Bruce Kellner Talk on Monday English and History will co-sponsors Carl Van Vechten scholar Bruce Kellner, who will speak at 7:00 p.m. in the Raynor Library. The program launches a new digital collection featuring over 700 portraits of prominent African Americans, images made by author, critic, and amateur photographer Carl Van Vechten (CVV). The library is lauching the digital collection in conjunction with the centennial of the NAACP.
