First
Year English receives a CCCC Writing Program Certificate of Excellence
October
28, 2005
The CCCC Writing Program
Certificate of Excellence Selection Committee-chaired by Martha
Townsend, and including Tina Good, Susan marie Harrington, Michael
Pemberton and Dan Royer-had the difficult task of choosing among
an outstanding field of submissions. The Marquette program was
chosen as the one of the best. The Selection Committee found Marquette's
program exemplary for its integration into its university community,
with significant outreach to disciplines across campus; its particular
sensitivity to diversity issues and attempt to create a writing
program that contributes to social good; and its attempt to base
programmatic effectiveness on student writers and writing.
The First Year English writing program will be publicized on
the
CCCC Web site and in
other venues, and the selection committee will send press releases
to media and campus officials that the Marquette First Year
program identiIes. Krista Ratcliffe, the First Year English
representative, will be presented with a certificate at the
awards session of the annual CCCC conference in Chicago, in
March 2006.
