- Learn
from professors
who are as well known for their talent in the classroom as they
are for their scholarly research and publications in areas such
as women's literature, multi-cultural literature, and creative
writing, as well as traditional areas such as Chaucer, Shakespeare
and Milton.
- Enrich
your writing skills through the Ott
Memorial Writing Center, a unique facility staffed by
English majors and graduate students dedicated to helping you
sharpen your craft.
- Earn
a place in Sigma Tau Delta,
the English Honor Society, or join the Marquette Writing Society,
a community of student writers. Get together for workshops and
share your work -- poetry, plays, fiction, nonfiction -- with
other writers. These organizations bring national writers to
visit Marquette, sponsor public readings and open-mike nights,
and raise funds for the hungry and homeless through activities
like "Share Our Strength," a day-long public reading
event with members of the Marquette community.
- Get course credit
for writing internships
at such places as Milwaukee Magazine, The Milwaukee
Repertory Theater, The United Way, KinderCare Learning Centers
Inc., the Wisconsin World Trade Center, Marquette Electronics,
or Milwaukee-area advertising agencies.
- Develop the skills
that employers seek — analytical and critical thinking,
interpretative and writing abilities.
