Teaching English Major
Degree offered: BA in Teaching English (TENG)

Teaching English (TENG) Major
Designed for students who wish to teach at the secondary school level. Offered in conjunction with the School of Education,

The TENG major will result in a student receiving certification to teach secondary school English in the state of Wisconsin. Students who wish to teach at the elementary school level follow a slightly different course of study. They follow the requirements for the English Literature major plus those courses required by the School of Education that will result in their receiving certification to teach English in elementary schools in the state of Wisconsin.

It is essential to consult with the School of Education regarding university and state requirements for teacher certification. A teaching major is required for both elementary and secondary teacher certification.

Students should also consult with the English Department's Director of Undergraduate Studies or the departmental adviser for English Education about the appropriate sequence of courses.
