What Can You Do With a Major in Sociology?

Graduates of the sociology major are valued for their ability to assess how social class, race, gender, religion, age and physical ability affect our surrounding world. So what can you do with a major in sociology? Our students pursue careers in social services, higher education, human resources, policy or market analysis or government or nonprofit research or apply to graduate school to pursue advanced degrees. Many students also choose to combine sociology with degrees in health, education, criminology, psychology or social justice, depending on their career goals.

Jobs for sociology majors

Sociology majors are in demand. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts jobs for sociologists will grow 21 percent by 2018, a much faster rate than for other occupations. Though many of Marquette's graduates pursue graduate education in sociology, law school or medical school, many with a bachelor’s degree begin their careers in areas such as:
